KIM JACKSON, CANDIDATE FOR GEORGIA STATE SENATE DISTRICT 41,

REPORTS OVER $86K IN RECENT DISCLOSURE

Jackson is running to replace Senate Minority Leader Steve Henson

Atlanta, GA – First time Georgia State Senate candidate, Kim Jackson, has raised more than $86K so far in her race to replace retiring Senate Minority Leader Steve Henson. She has outpaced her nearest rival by $75K. Jackson credits her fundraising success to the deep grassroots movement that is backing her candidacy.

The impressive fundraising haul can be attributed to Jackson’s connection to the community prior to her decision to run. Currently, she is the lead pastor of the Episcopal Church of the Common Ground, for people who are homeless. In this role, she provides for the spiritual needs of Atlanta’s homeless community and also runs a foot clinic every Tuesday for people who are unsheltered.

Jackson received a number of early  endorsements including the GA WIN List, Georgia Equality, LGBTQ Victory Fund, LPAC, Run for Something. To date, Jackson has been welcomed at 20 house parties with more scheduled and has had direct voter contact via a direct mail piece that went to approximately 12K households last fall.

“This campaign is about advocating not only for the people of my district, but for all Georgian’s to have a cleaner, healthier, and more just Georgia,” Jackson stated.

KIM JACKSON, CANDIDATE FOR GEORGIA STATE SENATE DISTRICT 41,

ANNOUNCES EARLY ENDORSEMENTS AND FUNDRAISING TOTAL

Reflecting Georgia’s progressive values and the strength of the campaign

Atlanta, GA – First time Georgia State Senate candidate, Kim Jackson, has a lot to be proud of this week. She has received a number of early endorsements that showcase the strength of the campaign as they work to fill the seat being vacated by Senate Minority Leader Steve Henson who is retiring at the end of the 2020 legislative session.

ENDORSEMENTS

On Wednesday, December 4, LGBTQ Victory Fund , the only national organization dedicated to electing LGBTQ leaders to public office, endorsed eight openly LGBTQ candidates for the Georgia state legislature – the most in history. If all are elected, Georgia would increase its representation in the state legislature from five members to eight and elect its first openly LGBTQ state senator, Kim Jackson . Currently just 16 openly LGBTQ elected officials are serving in the entire state.

Georgia Equality , the state’s political advocacy organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) Georgians and allies, also announced their early endorsement of Jackson on December 4. “We have worked with Kim for a number of years and are excited to be supporting her efforts to join the ranks of open LGBTQ legislators in Georgia. Kim Jackson’s service as a faith leader will bring an important voice to the Georgia Senate that has long been a chamber dominated by officials who would open the door to discrimination against LGBTQ Georgians,” said Georgia Equality’s executive director Jeff Graham.

Run for Something, an organization that recruits and supports young progressives, has also endorsed Jackson . In the two years that the organization has been in existence, they have helped to elect 200+ candidates to local offices in 40 states.

GA Win List announced it’s early endorsements and Jackson was honored to be on the list as one of Georgia’s leading pro-choice candidates. GA Win List is a political action committee that supports Democratic women running for the Georgia General Assembly and they are calling this first round of candidates being endorsed the #TerrificTwelve. The organization held an endorsement event at the Georgia State Capitol to make its announcement on Thursday, December 5.

FUNDRAISING UPDATE

To date, the campaign has raised an impressive $72, 500 which is in line with the Q4 fundraising goal. Jackson has built a strong, grassroots-fueled, low dollar fundraising operation which will continue to power her efforts straight through to the election. The campaign has hired Chism Strategies for voter contact as it prepares to further ramp up for 2020. The firm has worked on campaigns ranging from the Obama Biden campaign to Congressman John Lewis. They have worked with more than 800 state legislative and local government candidates around the country. Members of the Chism Strategies team have written voter contact scripts for every Democratic Presidential nominee going back to Al Gore.

“This past week has been truly a highlight for the campaign as I am honored by the endorsements, humbled by the team that supports me, and excited about the trajectory of the campaign with Chism Strategies on board,” Jackson stated. “This campaign is about more than me as it is about advocating not only for the people of my district, but for all Georgian’s to have a cleaner, healthier, and more just Georgia,” Jackson continued.
